2008 Boston Society of Architects Housing Award
Incorporating loft-style condos on the site of a former granite carving factory, six units are packed into a tight box defined by the allowable zoning and a strict parking requirement. Strategic placement of volumes allows for interlocking layouts featuring 17-foot-tall ceilings in each unit’s living area. These unique double-height spaces are represented on the façade with balcony voids highlighted by bright green wall panels. The recess of each unit’s balcony frames views into and out of the building, operating as a cinematic space contained within the warm red cedar surface of the building.
